An individual who laced treats with sedative and provided them to children at a summer camp in the area has confessed to sexual crimes against two boys aged between nine and ten.
The defendant was arrested after eight minors and one adult became sick at Stathern Lodge in July.
The senior citizen, from that region, confessed to a total of 17 charges when he appeared at the courthouse on Friday.
Yet, he denied one particular crime he was charged with, which was against a nine-year-old boy.
Ruben was kept in jail ahead of a further hearing on late November.
'Treat game'
Mary Prior KC, prosecuting, detailed the defendant's actions to the legal proceedings.
She said his targets were disadvantaged youngsters who were participating in a youth camp which he ran.
The defendant engaged in a "sweet game" with the minors, the legal counsel stated, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and request they to ingest treats "rapidly".
She stated to the judge Ruben had played this game with the young males "over an extended period", and minors had previously fallen ill the subsequent day.
She stated the man had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepchild had concerns in recently.
Mrs Prior KC continued: "Recently" his stepchild had worries about the situation, with valid cause.
"They resolved" to investigate in the man's possessions."
The legal counsel explained objects including baby oil, Vaseline and injection devices were discovered, and his family member notified the authorities about his worries.
She explained the man proceeded to conduct the "sweet game" with six boys that time - that Saturday - and they were everyone unwell the next day.
"The police had not responded by that point," she stated further.
The oversight body, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, previously told that it was investigating the police response of the events.
The prosecutor stated the minors were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so the stepson contacted the authorities once more.
She stated Ruben then played the "sweet game" in a area of five youngsters.
